BORACAY WHITE BEACH

I spent the day after my 30th birthday in a place where I least expected, Boracay. This beach is considered as one of the best in the world because of its pure powdery white white sand and perpetually clear turquoise waters, not to mention the good nightlife. Because of this, Boracay became the one the country’s top tourist destination among the foreign and local tourists. Even with its inviting characteristics, this place was not on my travel bucket list.

LOW TIDE AND SAND RIPPLES

Why? I read and heard a lot of awful stories about the island’s over development, rowdy crowds and the likes. I am actually avoiding mainstream destinations because I prefer the off the beaten path more. My friends really couldn’t believe that I am going to Boracay, even myself. Well, I can’t refuse on this trip because it is my girlfriend’s birthday gift to me.

STATION 2

She told me that, he will not wait for me to initiate going here because it will never happen. She made the right decision of  bringing me here, crossing out this postcard perfect island beach on the Philippine map with regards to the places I traveled. I admit that I got excited each day the trip came nearer. The fact that I am going for a vacation and experience Boracay for the first time.

After a 45 minutes plane from Manila, we landed at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan. A short tricycle drive to Caticlan Jetty Port and a boat ride going to Cagban Pier will lead you the beach capital of the Philippines.

STATION 1

SAND RIPPLES

I was impressed when I had my first view of the beach. I said to myself, “Wow!”.  The water is crystal clear and the beach is covered by very fine white sands.  What you see in postcards and read in travel guides are true.  The place was really impressive even on overcast weather.

WHITE BEACH ON A PERFECT WEATHER

I saw the more beautiful Boracay White Beach during our second day. The sun strongly shone over the beach with blue skies completing the white beach and turquoise sea water. We didn’t mind walking the beach under the heat of the scorching sun because of the scenic view.

BEACH BUM OR BOOK WORM?

SKIMBOARDS

I was glad that there were only few people during our visit.  We enjoyed strolling and bumming on the whole stretch of the beach. I am expecting sexy girls in bikinis bumping into my body due to over crowding like what I saw in TV during Holy Week (just kidding on the bikini girls).

PARAW SAILING IS POPULAR IN BORACAY

The only water activity we tried other than swimming was the Paraw Sailing. Paraw is a double outrigger sail boat which rely on the velocity of the wind. The best time to ride a Paraw is during sunset for a romantic feel but we chose the earlier time for us to shoot the sunset after. I had a good time riding the Paraw, I never thought that it can sail fast, really fast.

BORACAY SUNSET

BOAT AND SUNSET

The only disappointment was the sunset. Yes, there was a sunset sighting but not the famous fiery red orange with ball of fire sunset we see on postcards (talking about photographer’s problem).

I was wrong about Boracay. I never thought that I would enjoy my stay in this legendary beach. Boracay is really beautiful and it is not hard to figure why visitors keep on coming back. I hope Boracay can still maintain its status as one of the best beaches in the world by solving some environmental problems like waste management and sewerage system.

  5. Boracay isn’t my favorite place to travel to either, mostly because it is rather “tourist-y”, but on the one hand, I can’t deny its beauty. I don’t consciously long to go there, but there’s always an opportunity or an invite to do so, and whenever I do, it’s always been a blast. So yeah, it’s great you gave Bora a chance! And belated happy birthday! 🙂

  7. The Game

Sir, nice blog you got here. I’m also not a fan of travel destinations which are crowded. I wonder what date you went there and where did you stay? I’m trying to get info from you since I felt that we have the same view of vacation. Thank you.
